The year was 1985 and the State of New York had just awarded this 16 year old a Drivers License. I was a teenager on a mission! It was time to meet up with my already licensed buddies (mind you we were ALL driving our parents cars) and settle a few scores. My dad was cool enough to toss me the keys to his 1977 Chrysler Cordoba (YES of course it had the Corinthian Leather) which was powered by a 400 with a THERMOQUAD 4 barrel up top. I was pretty confident going in rolling in a Big Block (190 horsepower) Mopar, my 16 year old self figured it was an easy 13 second (5000 lbs) ride. I took my much older (17 year old) buddy for a test pass and he asked me if I flipped my Lid? HUH? he explained by flipping my air cleaner lid it adds another 30-40 horsepower easily and should rocket this Cordoba into the high 12's WOW! we pulled over I popped the hood and he showed me how its done. I jumped back in and immediately floored it to get back out into traffic breaking the one tire loose (there was always a lot of sand on the sides of the roads) The sound was incredible! MMMMMMMMWWWWWWWAAAAAA! it seemed like it had an easy 50 horsepower more and my street racing career was born!
